On Saturday and Sunday, June 12 & 13, we participated in the North County Relay for Life to support The American Cancer Society.  This was our 10 year of having teams of dancers raise money.  The 5 teams were captained by: "All in the Family" - Annette Dey (raised $20,191) ; "And They Danced for the Cure" - Beverly Goines (raised $9, 329); "Fishing for a Cure" - Pat Spencer (raised $16,298); "Fuddy Duds" - Karen Vacek ($12,402) and "Rhinestone Cowgirls" - Marcia Patterson ($11,798).  The total raised by the 5 dance teams is $70,007. Those individuals raising more than $1,000 each are: Annette Dey - $7,475; Hugh Powell - $5,394; Beverly Goines - $5,008.50; Gail Wise - $3,673; Gayeann Day - $2,549; Carole Gauthier - $2,189; Algerie Eckart - $2,019; Jo Anne McColgan - $2,014; Kate Vislay - $1,704; Dorothy Dey - $1,700; Marcia Patterson - $1,497; Diane Shickman - $1,435; Donna Dominick - $1,209.25; Leslie Schinella - $1,185; Barbara Holt - $1,102; Michael Dey - $1,005; Susan Elder - $1,000 and John Peggins - $1,000.  Congratulations to each of them for all their efforts.  These numbers are those available at the time of this entry and may change to a higher number.

Several of the teams worked year round to raise money and the efforts, dedication, enthusiasm and hard work is wonderful.  Because of the efforts of the team captains, teams members and support of the dance community,  this money, combined with the thousands of other relays across the country, is used in a variety of ways to fight cancer.

During the period June 12 to 24, 2011, there will be a combination cruise and land tour to Alaska.  This trip has been arranged by Shirley Hiebler of On the Go Travel.  We will fly to Alaska from BWI arriving in Fairbanks and spend 2 nights. Then on to Denali National Wildlife Refuge for a night, a night in Talkeetna and a night in Anchorage.  Then board the Royal Caribbean's "Radiance of the Seas" for a 7 night cruise to Hubbard Glacier, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point & Ketchidan with the cruise ending in Vancouver.  If sufficient dancers make this trip, we will bring our music and dance onboard the ship.  A copy of the flyer with pricing and more details is available by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
